Whistling Willow Workshops - a Price guideline

How we produced these figures - the break down of costs in more detail:

How we got these figures; for small scale workshops.

The artist’s basic fee is £25 per hour per artists.

In addition a bundle of willow is currently £30, and exactly how much willow is need will vary by workshop.

If we are making small things (wings, swords, pupets etc) then the guideline is that  a two hour workshop with 30 participants = 2 bundles willow. That is 1 bundle approximates to 30 workshop hours.

In addition to this an extra 25% will need to be added to cover tools and fabrics.

The guideline price we therefore quote for materials is therefore £75 for 30 participants in a two hour workshop or 31.25 per workshop hour.

in addition fuel at of Cornwall, and back is currently £50, which will need to be charged as an additional expense. It also means that the minimum time for a workshops is set at two hours.

At a Glance;

For a simple workshops producing small scale stuff in a two hour workshop (which is the minimum time we cater for) with a maximum of 30 children total price is £175.

Price includes a £50 fee for the artists, £75 for tools and materials and £50 if the session is outside Cornwall for travel.

For larger willow workshops, the prices will need to be worked out individually.

If you want to come up with your own ideas, that is fine, but here are a few things to bare in mind.

Living willow is more expensive than dead willow. What is more living willow is less likely to take root in the summer than the winter. In the summer one can use root balls, which will take root, but are pricey.

What is more dead willow will last long enough to allow some living plant (for example Honeysuckle ) time to become established. The Cheapest option in summer is therefore to use dead willow, and train a plant up it.

But do not let that put you off! If you have an idea about what you really want to build, just get in contact and we will workout how much it would cost .

We currently offer three individually priced large scale workshop packages.

Tunnels and Towers.

This is a two day workshop, which builds a set of 4 6 foot towers, each linked by 4  4 foot tunnels, made out of dead withies.

The total cost of the workshop all inclusive is £1100.

Junk carnival

This a half day work shops, where participants turn there own junk, be it plastic, cardboard, bottle tops, into making costumes, musical instruments etc .

It comes with a full day option, which will also include the the building of a chinese dragon.

The carnival requires 3 helpers, which can be provided by the event or we can bring ourselves (and pay).

If the helpers are provided it costs are £270 for a half day, and £370 for a full day.

if we provide helpers the costs are £390 for the half day, and £490 for the full day.

Willow as Lego

The main cost of this workshop lies in the number of artists, It tends by its very nature, it needs to be fairly labour intensive. One artist will therefore only be able to have up to ten participants at one time, and the participants will take different times to finish what they wish to make. The price quoted below is worked out per artist per two hours workshop , and assumes that a participant’s activity lasts around 1 half an hour. (and would need to be expanded if numbers increased).

Price for 40 participants in a two hour workshop is £150.
