      A Broken Society

‘We are in a broken society’

Said this politician or

That commentator.

Then where are the paving slabs

Piled up against crumbling walls,

Where are the miles of cracked

Tarmac, the shattered infrastructure,

The lack of skyline in the cities?

That’s what I think of as a

Broken society – one where

It’s not safe to go out, where

You’ve had to leave your home

Out of fear, where running is the

Only option, and fuel means

Hours spent gathering broken

Things to burn.

Ever felt the boy cried ‘wolf’?

Beware of saying things

Lest they come to pass.
