A conspiracy therefore mitigates pain by creating a value for it perpetrator, and meaning for its victim. Moreover this meaning is then sharable both with other individuals, who might well agree with it, as colleagues in suffering or merely onlookers. More than that it allows one to order the facts of the world acceding to this theory, this conspiracy. Moreover there are clearly three further aspects of conspiracy that modern states exaggerate, and advanced.
Firstly it is clearly that there is in a sense a conspiracy in all government, but just not the one that is usually claimed. Government life is dread of its own incompetent arrogance. That is in a democracy politicians needs to make arrogant claims: they need to claim they will cut waist or help the environment or the poor or whoever. They are after all elected on these claims. The trouble of course I that went they get into power they always find the gem of compromise and management that forms the back ground of the modern state makes these promised rather tricky you enact. They are then forced to find way or means (be they league tables or empty targets) by which they can impress their will on a system that is next o impossible to change. Promised then slip into ‘doable target’. And yet the trouble of course that these doable targets (say league tables when wrap the entire system which becomes about fulfilling the target irrespective of whether the target actually makes sense when it is treated in this manner. In short, in a democracy a government I the very act of enforcing their will, turns government into something akin to a conspiracy. The entire system of government becomes about fulfilling a target, and ding so wherever it is done and whatever the cost. Cheating becomes an option as does creative accountancy and down right lying.
At the same time the very system of government personalizes the inadequacy of a system. That is, given the sheer difficulty of actually doing anything good, it is usually far easier to jump upon any good thing that is happening(say economic improvement or whatever) and claim that this happy chance was as a s result of ones publicities. The game of politics is then the game o negative conspiracy. One claims the good things in the world as ones own, one claim or personalizes them, and hope for the credit. This very natural human assertion of credit for the good (we all do it in other spheres), opens the self same politicians up to the negative conspiracies when the shit hits the fan, conspiracies the politicians flee from, and yet can flee, by running towards that conspiracy of silence already considered. Politicians then are caught in a system where they needs use the very stuff of conspiracy theory, the very game of personalizing and claiming credit, they need to appear benevolent conspirators, a fact that then opens them up to abuse or misunderstanding, as things go wrong. The logic then of politics in good and bad times is caught up in the logic of the conspiracy.
Secondly the event of 11/9, has created a world conspiracy theory. That is the far t that one (smallish0 group of individuals got ‘lucky and committed wide scale death and destruction, has been blown into a great fact for our times. We feel there must be a great organization against whom we must wage war in the name of modernity. We (in the west) desperately look for this organization, then hidden force this veritable SPECTR, and finding not we wage in appropriate wars, or start to look for it in the mighty nothings of semi delinquent boy. Or to put it slightly differently the trouble with 11/9 was that the idle dreams of a few of the battle hardened disposed became a televisual horrific reality. A reality that then demanded the world (or at east the world as it is caught in conspiracy) to decide which side in this great conspiracy they were going to be, and to act accordingly. But here of course one needs so much care What that the event opened up for a section of the world that felt that its importance once greatt0 had slipped and been marginalized over many years, was a way to express that frustration and the feelings of rejection that went with it. It gave a focus a way o feel or express alienation. Moreover this alienation was not necessarily simple. Being of not of the culture growing in the west was difficult in its won right. The event’s f 11/9 then gave a way out of that difficulty it gave a conspiracy to blame (the West) and a conspiracy to join (The Brotherhood), and therefore turned personal misery into global politics The sates in the west, shocked by their failure to predict the actions as a few bitter individuals reciprocate, and start the read conspiracy everywhere and anywhere a reading into event that only makes then entire picture more complex and more difficult to solve. The world sipped (for a while) then into dualism of conspiracy theory and over simplification. A simplicity that it took the blood of Iraq to cure in the west at least .
The final deep conspiracy of modernity lies in this very complex. All the time individuals are asked to accept or take on trust techniques or science that do not understand. It is then the duty almost of he modern citizen to trust others, particularly those credited in so way by the state. All are then forced into system of infantisation and regulation. Conspiracy theories then in s seen form the resist to this otherwise rather humiliating position. We argue that there must be more to this than meets the eye. Tat this is not merely about our good (poor little things that we are) but rather it must be about someone or something else’s good (government or drug industry or whatever). In then attacking this half supposed interest, we assert of own individuality against an otherwise all smothering system. In this last point of course the media has rather big role to play. The media know that in repackaging the misery created by the humbling position modernity places its population, as conspiracy or and resistance, money can be made. Conspiracy becomes the big business of its own, and fortunes are made by certainly wallahs or cod drug industries (vitamin pills or remedies) out of this feeling powerlessness. The irony of cause is then that in feeling from the great alluded conspiracy of the state individuals actually fall into the clutches of another rather more organized and genuine conspiracy, one then is self consciously using fear is disquiet to make money.
