Overheard in a Sports Centre
‘Don’t waste your money it’s so awful…’ Courtney Love
And there was this girl right,
And she didn’t look very old,
She said she’d had botox and was
Thinking of a filler and had
Spent hundreds of pounds and
Had asked to still have a bit of
Flexibility around her eyebrows
As otherwise that would be a
Bit weird, and said well she had
To do it as she was single and
So had to ‘pull’…and that she would
Be thirty eight next year…
The girl she was talking to
Nodded gravely, asked where
She’d got the treatments,
How much and who did it?
She was pretty as a picture and
Not yet thirty. The skin about
Which she was moaning was
No more marked than a sheet of
Glass or a new bar of soap.
And the screens on the machines
Played on relentless.
Don’t watch the music channel,
‘Cos music would be great, but
The older men watching it show
Plainly it’s the soft porn channel,
And folk like this girl watching
It show plainly it’s also the
Paranoid channel. And what can
One say? But that we are living
In a broken society – our sense of
What’s real or what’s true has
Completely broken off the end
Of our common sense which is
Sadly now so uncommon.
