Four Themes.
a)The event.
Where can one start staring he world. How dos one start there can be only one real answer. The only place to start to share from is the event. The event falls upon an occasion, a banquet, and renders everyone significant. This filling of a complex kind. The Event the change and challenge from outside makes even the Veneering table a host of problems. They listen to a story from somewhere, about a man from somehow, and the weirdness of his will , and then all of a sudden his death is announced . the event falls into the world and transforms, as the event is that which w are on the cusp of always forecasting without ever knowing it was there. Society is that then the event enters, and which scoops up elements of it, and renders them different, an peculiar.
To hear of the event, is to be caught in its initially actualization. It is then to be caught n a journey. Things, with others just be seen to. And the clear zone of Lightfoot and Eugene were off, making things happen, and rendering challenges and changes. The event scoops, apparently all sorts and kinds of people, from the society upon which his falls, to the lamanentable real life of the gaffer, and his hut be h river. Live is caught up together, as a cross bar, a between of he social order. The actualization is full of scurrying journeys and mystery (Harmon himself incognito turns up to witness his own funeral). The event makes everyone respond, makes everyone a part of something else, a part in something else.
However this being a part is not as seeing the flowing river is. there one was caught up on the flow of perception, here one is caught in the bustle of a world removed from anything ones actualizing in oneself. Of is rendered very directly a part, an actor is a sage, the nature of which has yet to be definiendum. On is changing, and caught up n myriad different responses.
However the nature of this change is always itself tumbling from an outside. One remains in oneself in the grip of the beyond therefore. one does nit oneself explore or be caught in the liminal phases as itself (the river), but rather one is caught up in the challenge as it has already tumbled in. or perhaps if one is caught in the limainal it is ones' own liminal. One might do things different (lightwood and Eugene might have been differ), but the differences of which the universes then turn are very personal ones. The are not to be simply shared across and within others. O be a sage at this point I the become with another, but in oneself. That is one does not exchange as such with the other, or one does not have to. On the contrary in taking events one is caught by others, beyond any exchange any individual. We might exchange because then we are caught up on the same series the same basic set of the ring. The vents as such create the exchange indirectly in us, as the others us differently 9as Leibniz god reckons different ties of realty, different possible truth).
In the end therefore the very eternity of the event makes it the topic for society. Society is the name for such a none-exchange as it is in individual, little atomistic nuggets of being, which are gripped by it. The event in the level of the human becomes the mere gossip of the table. That hitch pose within and transformed one banquet becomes then the endless topic of other. And yet in falling in the first place, is opens up the maze of exchange and movement in which a novel or a life creates itself.
2) The exchange.
Exchanges one in three basic forms.
a)the Exchange of words and facts. A not is something which can pass up the tables of society or across the minds of many men. They might need to sit and ponder over its exact significance or wonder what it really means and yet the note is open and forces meaning upon them all. Or perhaps better, the note represents human knowledge as if it were an event. It is the note that force open the world of exchange, and renders humans exchanging as they consider its basic nature. The note therefore demands objective truth, be that a notice upon a policeman’s wall, or a note scribbled by Charley Hexam. The note is exchange, and people respond.
The high priest of the note is the policemen, whose role it is to monitor and right in his ledger. He makes truth in such a writing. Or better he establishes established facts, facts which cannot be otherwise understood or grasped than in that basic establishment of the case. A move which even as it is recoded (and so the coroner reflects it is false. It is moreover false in the fact or better because the of the fact that h only way Harmon can be identified was its by a note he carried. The lie I enshrined in a note because of a note…
b)The exchange of the same. A strange swang song is using others to be what one is. One looks on as Charley in a cab with Gentle folk or as the gentle folk themselves discussing their own lives. One looks one and yet that is never enough. One looks on and must take up or reproduce in someway. There world and ones own must be bound. That binding is complex. One might as Charlie does love he sound of it. One might then thrill in the presence of ones other. One might look to them t be what one is. on might then take p their be into oneself, and treat them as role models, or point of copy. Of exchange then the sense of exchanging identity, in becoming as they age, becoming within them.
But if another’s life has been trust u[on ones own nature then The rules are different. then one take sup not what they are so much as ones reaction to it. Life is foistured on a child and the child rebels. They in taking up that life pretty much de facto and yet even as they do so, they want something else, something different, they want o be challenged in someway. A career is therefore defined, and yet a rebel I born.
That is, actors both these two options runs the same red line of rebellion. The same problem, one looks to another, one takes then into own life as the represent something different as one tries to different. through them. Alternatively one is forced to be the same, and then must use that sameness as the point to rebel from.
Role models are either aspired to or forced, an yet he difference the desire to respond in world remains one and the same. The problem of course for everyone else for all others is that these two elements the model as hope or despair will appear to the external observer to have exactly the same basic cause. They ride together in a taxi of life. One another beyond the problem or aspiring or rebelling the problem is arbitrary, and the individuals involved should just get on and do it. Role models cannot therefore be simply created according the first axis, without always risk tumbling to the second.
C) finally there is he hidden world of the exchange, a world which starts in love. The exchange in which as Lizzie Hexam looks at Eugene impels her to leave the room. He sees here admiring him, and she is scared. An Exchange happens, which open the door to what? To all kinds of possible all kinds of challenges and changes, to Eugene’s eventual marriage (and near death0. the exchange is direct and life changing of he two. And yet to the one it appears merely eying up a pretty girl while to the other it appears to big to be allowed to be in this present. The exchange is what they confirms one person, while appearing to challenge the other, or better while it forces then it remove themselves as they know it will lead God knows where. But of course this is not the first time this has happened to Lizzie.
The same thing happened with here father, who she realized loved her, and who treats here differently, treats her as an equal. Here presence then takes her father to heights of virtue he could never otherwise reach. It makes in him, and ends him or endless little journeys of love. The exchange is therefore than which transforms. It established book or lives in the challenge it offers. I take up something you unwilling give me, or realize you are giving something and am changed and yet caught up it. Lizzie cannot escape her father and must flee from the challenge off Eugene.
The exchanges fear, and entrapment. It caught one in a life an exchange, a challenge. It is true that challenge might lead somewhere one might find a husband or a friend. Or one might be caught of the river bank wit Lizze and here father, who loves her alone.
To exchange is therefore to have to trust the other person, and their ability to be changing, even as one is bound to them. if they remain inflexible, If they remain caught, then ones exchange can easily itself become as a monster, a trap to capture a free spirit in.
3) The mystery.
The problem really with a mystery is always abut location. the problem comes down then to where is the mystery? is it the noise and mysteries event which is take-up in society? Or is it the young man who cannot give account of himself, who appears much moved and yet for know reason Where and why is their a mystery what could it be, and how could it be? where will it lead.
To open to mystery is to open genuinely to what is coming to be, as it might be said to be in what one is already. One looks at what one thought one was, and what one through would happened, than then allows into that thought into that expectation the endless set of permutations. Harmon to view his own death, is therefore for him t free himself into poverty, and the right to marry or notes he chose. The choice then allows him to wonder if he should marry as his father intended him to. It makes that an option. The mystery of his own life mapped out by a parent, becomes then a genuine mystery. Why did his father do this> And what should he do, how can he respond to such a will. Not can he render what was written in black and white creative and force other meaning into it. The mystery in rendering a thing mysteries takes the common place world of death or wills and detaches them, opens them into an echo of the possible,
The possible in not thought the simply bland overkill of the possible of the event. It is not the outside that is possible but rather then man. he is the mystery, a mystery to Lightfoot who he talks to, and a grater and deeper mystery to himself. A mystery that can only be thought about in the shift of aliases and the challenge to his own identity.
One responds then to the mystery, to the world of mystery, and never posing ones as a problem is rendering what one is fractures and prone to aliases. Harmon becomes Rokesmith. He becomes as a thing external to his life, in rendering it otherwise and opening it up.
In doing s, in becoming as the other looking is, as the reader the man from the country, possibility is born.
The Mystery is therefore cautious in that the external observer and the mysteries then are caught in the same axis. They both look at the same object, the same man and find them mysteries. All than differs is that the external observer is further out from the mystery. They look at it, or better include it in other factors, as a part of something else. Hey see then the mystery in a wide contexts. While the man of mystery will of course see the mystery as a thing that they always already are. They are that mystery. It is already a part in which they are, and how they live. They cannot escape their own being mysterious, the . Or better they see it in terms of how that mystery renders their life problematic. They are caught in a private world of mystery.
And yet the two are the same world and really the a same world This is not inner outer as such but merely a question of the agglomerations of perception that ender up a should, and challenge its integrity. The ‘outside’ sees the mystery therefore in terms of extra loops and links. The see the man of mystery is merely a facto in a wider tale, and so only possibly critical. The man of mystery sees then same mystery as it relate to him alone, as it allows his life to change.
One might of course say that this second aspect will be deeper than the first. After all it is the mystery which thought to matter, it is the mystery which the man of mastery drives forward and which exampling the other mystery, the more public one. And yet this is far two simple. The point is that the internal the man who is mysteries is mysteries because he cannot resolve the world of the public. He cannot therefore know who he is, He wants to render that public difficult, he feed in it and across it. The Public mystery is therefore the critical one to what he is. He might be the whirl which resolves parts of it, and therefore allows other to pull apart elements that belong to other stories, once he has resolved his own. But without this public oddity this second task of resolution would remain utter impossible,
The Power of h mystery is to reaming therefore liminal. One watched as the mystery is unspoken and critical. One has it then as public, as it hooks together many different treads, as it really is. it is the hooking of these threads. It is the echoing of things into one another, so that they cannot be resolves. The public is the true starting point(although it must always contained too much truth). The private then resolves this mystery into a form or manner of actualities. It makes it real in taking up it problems as itself own and resolving them as its own mystery. That is as what makes or allows its mystery to be for itself, and to be creative. In the private creation the public mystery in turn transformed and rendered open. Public becomes as clear, and the fuzzy boundaries resolved.
Mystery is the just motion or movement then of the liminal as such – the boundary line between a you and a me.
4) The Visionary.
Where is the vision? The question is meant very rally. A Vision is a thing suspended between to open public worlds and two private ones. The first open world in the medium, the gas ball or the gas which bubbles up form the past. The vision is held in a medium which challenges a normal reading of time, and by itself forces world not an otherwise. Something somewhere is therefore notes it normal is, a real oddity happens and the possible visions opened.
Secondly on the public sphere, the vision is bound up in its hopes and greed’s to the inquirer. The Vision is therefore open only as they desire a thing. It s open only as this registers cross what thy think they want to know or be. its role is to confirm or challenged
Me in acceptable ways that belief. The Vision therefore falls upon a world of expectation which is full formed It can only be understood in that falling, as that falling happens. It I only understood therefore as a thing in a world full born into expectations.
Finally on the open public the vision meant to in spire an action One has a vision to know what to do A vision must make a world different. I must therefore not leave thing as they were (or else where is the point o it. The Visions the agency into which mind bleeds its decisions. To ac is a certain away is to want and to forecast a future. I is therefore always to be open to what is to come, and to be travelling towards it.
The vision on this open world is the echo of the future one expects (but actually has no right to demand), and the actions one takes going god knows where. The medium is he agency the reality that lied between the two. The real world that alone can decide whether the former echoes into the latter.
However the prophetess herself if different. The young open mind asking is one thing, but what his sister sees in her fire, is another. Her visions have power because they open out on the past. A pat discounted and seen again. But it is not seen as something s imply there. On the contrary, it exists as an axis in which different lives are mapped out (the prophets life is to be different from her brother) a drawing in which different possibilities in the different lives are found. The prophet is therefore the person who render past problematic. Time cease to be about a ticking clocks, and the same series of perceptions (or events is one must, but don’t) while caught up in embodying many rather distinct types and elements of live. Life becomes about then rendering ones experiences differently, and the prophets the person who feels that different.
She knows then out of the past, out of what has happened their lies the echoes waiting to be pulled, other possible. Her owned her brothers past, is therefore open as it is also caught up in others past, in exchanges beyond what they are. These exchanges need not be pure event. Rather thy are the exchanges the fragments of past that catch up their lives and the lives of others, and force each to attempt to compose a single story out of different experiences. The Outside falls therefore, becomes in allows ones memories to be different in the context of others refits. The image as such in therefore an illusion it is not. What is isa varitey of embodying memories, which echo into endlessly possibility across different exchanges. Each exchange echoes the same set of memories differently, as so crates in a sense a different actual past.
The Prophet therefore starts with the inside, with the past, and projects them onto the outside. She in his mires the open, which of course states in the medium, and hopes it will realize a life. The prophet by contrast knows that such an action if not impossible (which it is not), is at least troublesome. The agency which creates such a live, will open it to buffers and problems, to exchanges beyond any reckoning. The elements of one mind (one experiences in school) will only becomes ones own and young Hexam demands if on is prepared to destroy and undermine all the possible for difference they would otherwise echo. In the end his desire to be in a simple world destroy any real prophecy. That is it destroys the opening of the ‘past’ or better the imagined world, in demanding the one and only future.
The prophets is therefore someone who explores the gap between the another and ones current mind, while her listen is that individual who wishes to glut his mind and what he already is.
That is the prophetess is someone who uses a medium be it gas or the bubbling up of experience in a brain, to force the world into endless echoes off, and open it into exchange: Other in the same head space, will have the same or slightly different visions. My memory is never my own alone. others in reflecting and refracting it, allow it to do other things, and challenge otherwise. The listener is though someone who wan a nice neat world, and is prepared to kill all other possible option to get it.
