Spoken/Written Bulletin S.W.

...incredibly comprehensive...it’s my live lit information bible!

Mel Scaffold, Programme Co-ordinator,

Apples & Snakes S.W.

The bulletin is an essential tool for me as a freelance writer/tutor. It has helped me source information for entering competitions and given me job opportunities. I have come to rely on it as a resource.

All my support.

Glenn Carmichael, The Poetry Slam

…as important, if not more important, than an information website, as it prompts us, acts as a catalyst to write, submit, send a CV etc., and push us gently further along our professional development as writers and performers etc.. so I urge you to continue this invaluable service.

Alan Summers

Poet-in-Residence at Oppo} Harmonic Fusion, Park Street, Bristol

I think it’s provided a really valuable service to artists, venues and organizations across the SW, both in terms of flagging up opportunities (for artists) and disseminating information about festivals etc. What I really like is that you’ve reached right across the region. That’s quite an achievement! In our huge and unwieldy region we need a few more points of connection to link us all together.  Thanks for plugging me in!

Heidi Stephenson, former South West Regional Coordinator, Apples & Snakes

A really handy resource - It was kindly forwarded to me by literature training.  I now signpost individuals to the whole thing. A well collated selection of opportunities (which combines a regional bias) I think is a great resource.

An inherent difficulty with e -bulletins would seem to be their tendency to become too unwieldy - this bulletin is targeted and not too big.

Best wishes

I’m impressed by how eclectic Spoken/Written is – much better than the other SW ones I’ve seen recently. Thank you,

Susan Taylor – Poet, host of Trade Winds, member of Moor Poets

Spoken/Written is one of the few really good bulletins for poetry and spoken word in the UK - I find it really helpful, even though I don't even live in the South West!

Tom Chivers – Penned in the Margins

I read the bulletin and then forward it to students at Dartington College on the Writing courses; There are 9 students in the MA and 64 at undergraduate level - I find it great as a gathering of information for the students of events they might want to attend, and also it gives them a sense of opportunities for now and for the future; It is a very useful service.

Dr. Mark Leahy

Director of Writing, Dartington College of Arts

I look forward to receiving the next one and well worth subscribing to. Thanks again,

Charlotte Ansell

Thanks for the information so far, much appreciated.

Steve Spence

The newsletter is a great way to keep in touch with what’s happening and who is active in the area. I’m a composer so I’m particularly interested in the potential to discover writers who may be interested in innovative collaborative projects with a musical element.

Just wanted to say that I find the Spoken/Written Bulletin an invaluableresource. Writing can be a lonely occupation so it's good to hear what's happening out in the real world. The bulletin keeps me in touch, and has, indeed, been responsible for me securing a major project for Past & Present Press.

Keep up the good work

I can't tell you how many times it has been a useful resource to me. I have entered into many things I would never have previously heard about had I not been subscribed. The amount of writing 'utensils' out there which are meant to support both new and established writers but ask a preposterous fee is already alarmingly high. I have recommended it to loads of people, especially in my writer's groups and a lot of my performance friends also subscribe. We need you.

Emma Mclaughlin

I would just like to say a big thank you for your great newsletter. It manages to bring all arts related information together in a clear and concise way. I am sure many people read it with much relish, or even a coffee!

I do hope this continues for a very long time and remains free of charge, as we all know all artists are poor, but not in imagination, which is just what this fires. The inspiration to enter and be seen and hopefully kick arse with amazing ideas..

Long may it remain so.

Having all this invaluable information in one place saves us all such a lot of research. It’s brilliant.

Just thought I'd drop you a line to say how useful and brilliant I find your bulletin, even though I don't live in the south west anymore, I still subscribe as I go in for a few competitions you advertise. Just from reading your bulletin I have been shortlisted for the Asham Award and about to be published in a magazine- Thank You!

    cheers, Fritha Waters

I have found this bulletin extremely valuable - it's very difficult to get this information through other sources and it's great to have it all in one place.

Hannah Silva

I am arts editor of H20, the student magazine and I just wanted to let you know how helpful I have found your regular bulletins.

Information that I would normally have to really search for appears in my inbox every month which is fantastic and I am then able to pass this information onto the students at the university. So many thanks,

Best Wishes,

Tracy Wall, Bath Spa University

This bulletin is extraordinarily helpful and full of info that it would either cost you to find out or would take about a week by the time you have scoured the magazines and libraries. This is a great service - please continue.

How else would all those interested in writing get such a quick and efficient one stop shop?

This is imperative for those of us who are self employed and do not have the advantages of being able to access other college or town networks , or who 'live in the stix'.

A real bonus to the lonely writer or those involved in any sort of support or education. we can so easily sign post others to the site.

We need it in Creative but deprived Cornwall.

I *love* Spoken/Written SW; it inspires me and encourages me and goads me into thinking about stuff. I spend my days writing professionally about dull computer software, and S/W reminds me what got me interested in writing in the first place.

Thank you for making it.

Giles

May I just raise my voice in support of Spoken Written's e-bulletins, which I look to for info about what's happening creatively in my region (SW). We need to continue to support these kinds of outreaches to the arts community.

Yours truly,

Ms. Rommy Collingwood

Very interesting and I intend to follow up some of the leads contained therein! I have come to it via the Creative skills newsletter - keep up the good work -- useful for us out on the edges to know what is going on in the south west and especially Cornwall/Devon.

best wishes

I'm very glad indeed to have received this SW Bulletin. It seems an invaluable document and the only sure way at the moment of discovering what is happening in poetry, writing and the performing arts across the South West Region. I congratulate...the bulletin for a job excellently done and cannot imagine how promoters, writers, performers and fans of the spoken and written word in this region could possibly manage without such a useful circular to hand.

Jane Holland (Published poet, performer, reviewer and editor)

This is to let you know what a wonderful magazine Spoken/Written Bulletin SW is.  It's invaluable, I've learned so much about what's going on, have made so many contacts, and  would really miss it. Courage.......

Thankyou Heather Grange

I've found the bulletin extremely useful - much more so than glossy magazine bulletins with very little information about opportunities.

Crysse Morrison

Wonderful.

Have just received this and it's great!

Grateful thanks,

Juliet England

I think your bulletin is tops and look forward to reading it every time. While I do live in Cardiff, it's nice to read about what's happening elsewhere in the UK. It's very encouraging and I might even nerve myself to approach some of the organisers who offer poetry events about reading soon.

So thank you for your hard work!

Regards,

Ivy Alvarez

Marvellous bulletin.

We've found it very useful at Carlton Poets

June Bastable for Carlton Poets

The Bulletin is welcome in my house, I find it comprehensive and therefore useful, and of course stimulating.
