Long Rock : What is there?
The site includes a sequence of dens (some built by Melina hubbard, others by local people), interlinked by a set of tunnels, all running through a wood and existing withy bed, that would be commonly dismissed as mere scrub. Living willow was used throughout. The aim was to create living thicket or complete set of runs and dens, and open up a way to explore the world from an animal’s point of view. Part of this challenge, was to use the existing trees, and willow, and build the run around them, or include them into the design, which gives it a peculiar natural quality. The runs and dens also divide into those which adult can use and enjoy, and those specifically for children, creating two types of space in the one site.
