Why the Cartwheels Collective?

The Collective are 8 artists of different arts who have all - in different combinations and at different times - lived in the same space. When they realized just how many strings each had to their bow, the crossovers between artists, and how well they could work together, in combinations or as a group, they came together to form a Collective.

Two words and performance based artists, three visual/3D/craft based artists, and three sound based artists comprize the Collective. Yet one of the musicians is also a sculptor, another is also a visual artist, both the performers create occasional art, and so it goes on, until the boundaries between artforms becomes, well... Collective.

What’s here?

This site hosts a lively mixture of comment, be it political, philosophical, cultural, or poetical and a rich variety of artist’s showcase pages, plus individual promotions.

But why all the different skills together?

The Collective is committed to small scale solutions to large scale problems. However, if this is really the correct strategy to tackle current environmental and political issues, it is clear that a certain type of eclecticism, which blends together numerous individual responses, needs to be the order of the day. The Collective therefore sees itself as one small experiment in such a strategy.

How does one use this site?

Individual artist’s pages always include contact details, for specific commissions. Alternatively the Collective is used to working together, and offers a number of set  packages which are particularly suited to the needs of festivals, events or parties. You will find details of these, and an ‘a la carte’ selection of skills on the ‘Hiring the Works’ pages. To commission more complex work involving one or several of the featured artists, either go to the Contact Us page, or just click here. Finally all philosophy and all political ideas here are open source. Please feel free to plagiarise them as much as possible.
