About Green Phoenix Story Telling
Green Phoenix Storytelling, aims to communicate to, and explore with, children and young people the richness of creative possibilities, which is opened up by the simple act of telling, and retelling a tale. A telling that is always at once an act of memory but also of imagination; a solitary performance but also a social interaction; a fiction but also a history; a nonsense, but also profound advice.
We present a variety of different workshops, suitable for any age group, designed to explore different ways by which one can remember a story, be it a traditional tale or a joke, and to show how the very act of memory can itself be great fun (and involve a high degree of social interaction). But also, have a number of workshops specifically designed for older pupils, which explore both the excitement and the pitfalls, of basing ‘real history’ on the stories from the past. These workshops will always use allegedly ‘real’ accounts from the past (be it the Epic of Gilgamesh or ’eye witness’ accounts of the battle of Hastings), and show how they are at once great stories as well as historical texts.
